I'm thinking of buying a Vivitar V8018 8MP Digital Compact Camera. It has a movie capture capacity.

Does anybody know if I can transfer recorded moving pictures to my PC using the USB cable provided, or would I have to buy something else?

All the camera and computer know is that it's a file, doesn't matter if it's moving or still, it will just dump the data by the USB no problem. It would be quicker though to take the data card (I assume SD) out of the camera and stick it straight in the PC, if you have a suitable port.

As above, but usually Cameras now come with their own software on a disc or you go on their site to download it.
Recently bought a Kodak in a sale, came with its own disc for editing and downloading etc (easyshare).
Also your PC will detect your camera as an external device, so sometimes brings up the appropiate application to work with it.
But Windows Media will probably work with it as a lot of stuff seems to be more compatible now a days.
Also do you have Nero on your PC?
I find nero pretty good, has a function to download off a external device such as a camera or video recorder.
I am no expert though, just muddle my way through it.
