I bought a bag of CDs to my local charity shop this morning. I walked up to the counter and said "Hi. I've got some CDs for you." The woman behind it ignored me and carried on reading her paper. I then repeated myself and she just carried on reading her paper.

I turned around to walk out and another woman came over and took them from me. It's the last time I'm giving them anything.

Maybe she's deaf.
Maybe she doesn't speak English.
Maybe she has learning difficulties.
Maybe she was having a really shite day/life.
Maybe she thought you looked like a nonce.

She is volunteering though.

Could be all sorts of reasons and no need to take it personally, unless you are a nonce!

The lady behind the counter would be the manager who was thoroughly p****d off because no volunteers came in to enable her to escape meeting customers.

I suspect that the helpful one who took the CD's was the assistant manager who clearly hasn't learned the ropes just yet

You'd probably have got similarly poor customer service in many high street stores if you were trying to buy something!

I've found that some charity shop staff seem more grateful for donations than others. I tend to donate more frequently to the ones who are most pleasant.

Maybe you only THINK you exist?
Maybe only certain types of people can see you?
Maybe she was a figment of your imagination?
Maybe she was a shop dummy cleverly posed to appear as if she was reading a newspaper?
Maybe it was a sponsored silence?
Maybe you wore your football team's shirt and she supports 'the other side'?
Maybe she'd remembered she hadn't brushed her teeth and her breath smelled like the inside of a diseased rat's intestines which had burst and become putrid in the baking sun (Kelvin McKenzie described there)?
Maybe you dreamt it?
Maybe your mind was playing tricks and telling you to write a TV/radio play and here's your idea?
Maybe she'd once offered to fellate you until you faint with a whimpering pleasure never before experienced by any mortal man and you turned her down 'cos your tea was on the table and you didn't want to be late home?

Take things to one our local charity shops and their usual response is, 'Can you take it to the warehouse? Only about 7 or 8 miles away.

She's still carrying out a customer service role whether she's volunteering or whether she owns the place! If she doesn't want to do what the 'job' requires then she should stay in bed so someone else can.

I'd have been p1ssed off with her as well.
WTF, you do the decent thing in life, put yourself out to help someone, only to get some miserable bag spoiling the moment.
TBF, i'd have a go another day, perhaps she was on an off day, i'll always give the benefit of the doubt.
That said, if she worked or volounteered for me and consistently behaved like that, i'd sack her. Can't stand people that openly project their negativity onto others.

On the face of it, it sounds bad but I have a few friends recovering from serious health problems who volunteer in local shops. They are nice people but sometimes exhibit odd behaviour linked to their illness. I suspect if you go in again, she'll be much more accommodating.
Yes, sometimes the staff manning charity shops have some sort of disability not immediately apparent, be patient next time
