Driving lead car

I have volunteered to drive the lead car for our club race and just wanted to know if there are any rules I should be following.
Like, how far in front of the pack should I keep, what happens when we meet a left turn onto a main road and I cant turn before the riders approach? etc
Any tips welcomed
