HI Guys, I'm looking at doing a ride to Warrington from Liverpool this week. I have been looking to do the East Lancs but I'm not sure if there is a bike path that far up. I am comfortable riding on roads normally around town but don't really feel too great about riding all the way to Warrington on the East Lancs.

Can anyone advise on this please??.

I asked this a while ago. I think there is, but as usual it's not the whole way along it.

Take a route that gets you near the airport, then through Hale. Go on the outskirts of Widnes and drop over the top of Widnes into Warrington.

+1 to that...look up the 'Trans-Pennine Trail' for the route- it follows on from the south end of the loop line path, so depending whereabouts on the East Lancs you are, that might be a handy way to join it.

Definetly go for the trans pennine route, mostly traffic free and a ride down the mersey in this weather should be breathtaking!

they are in the process of a staged improvement of the cycle track at the side of the east lancs, in the st Helens region. It is very good from catchdale moss lane until moss bank road. Then pretty poor from there to the M6. Ok for a mountain bike but very bumpy on a road bike and lots of kerbs at junctions so on and off a lot. Then from the M6 to the greyhound roundabout - near bents garden centre - it is very good again.

There is an off road cycle path from carr mill dam heading into warrington, the sankey canal route. You could cycle path on the east lancs until you pick that up. You'd need a decent map though, it's not the easiest to find
