Had bike just over 2 weeks now, gone from zero cycling to a 34 miler on Friday and another 13 today, feeling fitter already. Tomorrow I will attempt my first commute into work, it's 15 miles and got some hilly bits, will then have a couple of days off and ride it home on Thursday, more uphill that way :-(

Will be interesting in traffic, lots of country road I've been on so far, will take it easy in the big city ( Sheffield)

Hoping to loose a few stones in the next few months,

Will do, I'm lucky in that I can leave it until after rush hour, and the last 5 miles are nearly all downhill :-)

Thought it would take a month to get capable of doing it, but I reckon I'm about ready, only one way to find out

That's about the same commute that I started a few weeks back - albeit mine's not quite as hilly as Sheffield

Got up to 4 days of commuting last week, plus a club ride on Saturday and a bit of mountain biking around the Surrey Hills yesterday. About 170 miles in a week. I can feel the weight melting away already.....

Keep up the good work - you'll soon be riding in most days

Well I've made it. 15 miles. 700 feet of climb. 14 mph. Pretty chuffed. Negotiated dual carraigeways roundabouts etc. Got slowed in traffic coming into Sheffield. Ended up overtaking another cyclist uphill which was nice. 2 days off the bike now then back on thurs night.

I'm coming from near J29 of the M1, down through Hasland to Chesterfield then up the A61 to JE James roundabout. Then through Dronfield, Meadowhead, Woodseats and into City Centre. Only really traffic in Woodseats.

Done the return now, only 3 minutes longer despite increase in altitude. Tomorrow is a half day for me, I will try there and back in a day I think.

getting better now, bit of a tailwind today, but I'm chuffed with getting 15.8 mph average this morning, couple of minutes under the hour for the commute in. Can feel myself getting fitter.

another milestone today, did the whole commute without needing the small chainring, and under the hour without the big tailwind.

Didn't even realise I was in the biggest one on the last bit of uphill. If I can ever do that going back then I've cracked it! Some horrid hills that way though.
