What a weekend.......first fifty miler (completed on Saturday with a constant headwind that made the whole thing like a hill climb), spent yesterday with my lovely missus hacking through the woods on our MTBs in knee deep mud (great fun - we were pissing ourselves) and then, yesterday afternoon, took the plunge and bought some Specialized BG Road Shoes and Look pedals!!!

Really, before I discovered cycling, I would never have had such a good weekend!!!

But the highlight for me has to be the half-century.

Congratulations mate. I think 50 miles is a real milestone. You need to switch to metric now and make your next goal a metric century (62 miles)

Well done :bravo:.
I remember my first 50 miler when I spent the entire time from 49.98 miles just staring at my computer so I could watch it tick over to the the magic 50.

Sincere thanks for all the encouragement. I feel obliged to go and bust out a century next weekend now (even if it's only a metric one)!!! ^_^

Nice work mate. It's a great feeling when you hit these milestones - which I am sure you will. Good luck with your fifty - hope the weather holds (but, let's be honest, you'll still enjoy it even if it doesn't).

Just used Garmin Connect to work out a little 60 miler for the weekend. Will take in Rochford, Battlesbridge, Burnham on Crouch and Maldon. Should be an interesting route (from memory, I think there are some useful hills en-route).

Unfortunately, my usual riding partner isn't around - so it's going to be a solo effort.

I still havent done 100 miles. I have only managed 80. I am aiming for the opportunity to do 100 this summer.

Glad you are meeting your milestones though.

But to keep that in perspective - 80 miles is still a flipping long way. Respect to you for that.

I think that if you can put in an 80, then a century is not too far away. Wishing you luck with hitting that milestone this summer.
