The rear mech on my Trek goes left to right from low to high gear, as do most bikes. With that in mind I wonder why Shimano make their EF65, 8-speed trigger gear indicator go the opposite way.
Most illogical as that other great Trekkie with the pointy ears would say.

it's the same on my shimano shifters... never though about it before though

Without looking at one I would suspect it has something to do with the way the cable winds into a spool and the numbers are just printed on the spool.

Take it apart, take a look and let us know.

Take it apart? I don't think so, the bikes not yet a week old. I am not that bothered, in fact not bothered at all, it was just something that struck me whilst out for a ride. The numbers, by the way, are on the indicator glass and it is just a red mark that moves.
