Thought I should follow good form and introduce myself.

I'm basically a newbie.
Took up cycling a couple of years back but never really did the mileage I should.

Since the winter has broken, I'm cycling multiple times a week. Not huge distances, but I'm taking it steady.
I used to be 19 stone and am now down to a bit over 13.5 and I'm 45 years old.

I was obese all of my adult life and even as a teenager, was never fit.
This isn't me trying to get my fitness back. This is the first time ever.
Fat kid = fat teenager = fat adult.

I'm doing a bit of commuting every day and am enjoying learning how to be a better cyclist.

So far, only managed 12 miles in one circuit, but that's a big deal for me.
Did it in a bit under an hour and that's with what I would call a fair few hills chucked in.

Anyway, I think that's enough for now.

Thanks for reading.

Hello and Welcome to CC.:hello:

Well done on your weight loss and cycling....every bit counts. I can take a guess at what your name stands for and if I'm not wrong then I like yer sense of humour!! I'm a bit down the coast from you so remember you've got some nice hills and coastal routes just down the road.

Fran.

Welcome from sunny Ayrshire.

Well done with the weight loss.

Keep at the cycling and you will find that the current trips become easier and that you can go further. There are loyts of interesting day rides in west and you can take your bike on all trains.

Hi all

Thanks for your warm welcome.

Yes, the username is what you think it is

I'm just to the north of Cumbernauld where we are well served with relatively smooth roads, but not too far from the hillier stuff either.

Regarding logging bike rides, what I have beend oing is using Sports Tracker on my Nokia 5800.

I cycle part of the way into work and car share the rest of the way.
when I get into the car for my lift, I hit upload and it's waiting for me when I get in and log onto the sports tracker website.
Great app, if you like that sort of thing.

Thanks for saying hello back.
I'm sure I'll bug you all with ideas for routes, gear etc.

Cheers

You'll have seen lots of references to CC Ecosse Forum Rides

(or should have done

) and we look forward to meeting you on one.

They have 2 main principles:

- no one gets left behind. We go at a speed to suite everyone

- they are fun

Most folk who have done them want to come back for more, so there must be a lesson there ....
