I was going to buy a new commuter but that deal has fallen through as they no longer have my size. My commuter was described as looking like an old mans bike which is probably why it has remained in my possession for so long. i have therefore decided to upgrade the bits on it. This means I have a little cash now to get a road bike rather than in the spring. I think I have narrowed it down to these 3 bikes I am 5 feet 10 with a 31 inch inside leg.

So which one? and which size? or is there better for the price
Thank you all for looking.

I'm 5foot 9 and 1/4 inch and ride 54cm and 55cm bikes, and a bike fit suggested a 56cm was ideal, if that's any use but I'm no expert and different frame geometries (compact frames) will make a difference as will how dimensions are measured.

For aluminium frames, Cannondale every time (if they have your size).

I'm 6' 2.5" and ride 2 different Cannondale bikes, both 58cm.

My local does the Forme. It looks pretty good. They're all about the same so just test ride them. The forme is Derby based so you're supporting UK if such things matter to you.

Do you want to use the bike purely for commuting or riding at the weekend as well?

If your primary purpose is commuting i would be looking for a bike that can take a full time rack and mudgaurds.

Have a look at the specialized Secteur.

I run a Carrera Virtuoso for commuting and i have even done a sportive on it, about £2-300 cheaper than what you have listed.

Remember the prices here are for this years model and are discounted to clear ready for next years stock.

If your looking for a bike more suited to fitness riding then they all look good, i nearly bough a cannondale but in the end i went for one of these ...

The best advice i can give is to try the bikes for fit, even if they are the same size they can have slightly different lengths of reach and you can spend a lot of time trying to get a bike to fit you if its not right to start with .

Go with the one that feels right.

I'm the same height as you and 54-56cm frames are generally the right size (ish depending on how they're measured stem length etc.) the formes in your link are probably too small or too big and of the other two the cannondale 54cm gets my vote it looks nicer and they both have tiagra so not much in it spec wise.

The Cannondale synapse is at an amazing price!! i wanted one of them,,but could'nt get one, so got the 2012 version instead. I can't fault it, done two 60 mile rides, plus a few 30 mile ones on it and no problems. I find it really comfortable.

The Synapse is a nice bike... I tested one before I bought my CAAD8. I'd try it out first, but at that price it's a real bargain.
