Hi,

Sirrus Elite
Trek 7.3 FX

I'm new to cycling (last rode when I was in my teens over 20 years ago) so you'll have to excuse my lack of 'in-the-know' terminology in this post. Had a spin on both of these bikes today and though they both gave a different ride position they seemed fine to me. I felt more upright on the Trek, but no idea what difference that is going to make for my needs. Some riding will be nice and slow on towpaths etc with my partner, whereas other riding will be on the road for fitness, to compliment my running.

What's the difference between the specs on these two bikes? Is one much better value than the other? Also, what do carbon forks give me? The price difference is not an issue. I'm happy to change things like tyres, pedals so those differences are not an issue.

Thanks,
Dave

Carbon forks are more comfortable to ride, especially if the frame is aluminium, which is quite stiff.

I can't give an opinion on the Trek as i've not ridden one, But i bought the Elite several weeks ago, It's a very light, quick bike, lovely smooth ride, the gears & brakes do a good job - after years on drop bars I wasn't expecting a hybrid to be a nippy as this.. I am very happy with mine.

I have been considering both the Specialised and Trek, and think I have decided on the Sirrus. From what I have read, bar ends can't be fitted onto the Trek, without changing the actual bars, so that might be something for you to bear in mind.

Good luck!

Hi Dave,

Had my 2011 Sirrus Elite about a month now, done 500 miles on it already! absolute megga bike, pretty quick, and comfortable.

My top speed has been 32Mph on normal terrain on a sunny day! and I average speed of 15.8Mph over a 14 mile daily commute to work.

All depends on what you want out of a bike, If your looking for fitness (which is what I wanted - office waller!!) then this is the bike for you!

What ever you get - enjoy!

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I think it will be the Specialized I go for, but it could still some down to the toss of a coin!

Cheers,
Dave
