It all started when I needed a new saddle for my old vintage BSA. I saw a Charge Spoon for sale on E-Bay and decided to bid. Anyway, I won the auction and duly fitted said saddle to said BSA and took said combination for a ride a couple of days ago. The result?

Well I was seriously impressed with this cheap bit of bum-perch. So seriously impressed I ordered and received to two more Spoon bum-perches from Winstanley. One for my old Dawes Shadow (whose saddle was so uncomfortable, the effects on my anatomy are best imagined rather than described), and one for (OMG I can hardly say this) my tourer which currently sports a much sit boned and loved B17.

That Spoon is that comfortable!

The difference is that whilst the B17 was supremely comfy, I always had a tendency to slip forward on it. Lifting up the nose just put pressure where it was least required.

The spoon is at least as comfy, but with no sliding forward effect. OK I have yet to prove the Spoon over more than a few miles, but so far ... Brooks eat your heart out!

They were recommended to me when I went fixed. Ended up getting the Titanium Knife, that's dead comfy and cost less than £40, and is light at 210g.

They are very comfy.

Very interesting. I've been wondering what to put on my round-town mtb in place of the unbranded one it has now. Don't want to put a Brooks on it - it gets left all over the place and I dont think a £50 saddle would stay on it!

Glad to see someone else finds the San Marco Rolls painfully uncomfortable. I tried one of those. I could just manage 10 miles. I took it out 3 times and then sold it.

Just had a look at the saddles and they look good, I have always had San Marco Rolls saddles but wiil certainly have a look at these. Thanks.

If you like Rolls, you'll like these.

Oh some of you don't. I like Rolls and Regal saddles. I have a love hate relationship with my Flight Titanium...... either splits you in half, or is dead comfy.

I have a Madison Flux saddle on my bike, which according to a magazine review that I read, is a virtual clone of the Spoon.

It's certainly the most comfy saddle I have used, and I have tried a few different ones....

To be fair, I have never tried an expensive "proper" make saddle, but if the Flux met with an accident then I would certainly get another one, or try a Spoon since the two are reckoned to be very, very similar.

Well, Mr Gerry Attrick, you may have a lot to answer for.

As mentioned above, my mtb is in dire need of a new saddle. Since my purchase of a San marco Rolls, with sore and uncomfortable consequences for my backside, I've only bought Brooks*....

Until......

This morning, after reading your glowing praise for them, I've just ordered one of these Charge Spoons from Evans.

To be fair I did find a couple of excellent reviews elsewhere, but I shall of course hold you personally responsible if it isn't the most comfortable saddle I've ever used.

I'm hoping it does feel as comfortable as you and two other reviewers say, because I've been looking for an alternative to the B17 for years without success. Nothing wrong with the B17, brilliant design, but at £50ish it's expensive to leave on a bike that's used for general transport and left for long periods in public places, on its own liable to theft and getting bashed by other bikes being parked and unparked. It's expensive anyway as a second bike saddle.

At under £20 if the spoon is successful I'm much less worried about it being left on the bike.

I'll post how I get on with it when it comes. If that's not good the posting will be on the for sale forum!

*I've only used Brooks B15/ B17 on my main bikes ever since my first 53 years ago!

Now you come to mention it I have that trouble but always put it down to incorrect riding position. Food for thought. Once again thanks.

That's the Brooks' way. If it's not right it can't be the saddle. I tried a B17 for 1000 very miserable miles before buying a specialised Body Geometry saddle. After 200 miles on it I'd ordered one for every DF (7 at the time.) I owned and my wife had 2 female specific versions for her bikes.

I put a Spoon on my road bike about two years ago - fantastic saddle. No soreness whilst breaking it in, as it didn't need broken in.

This thread has just reminded me that I need to get another one for my MTB whose San Marco saddle was repaired with tape that sticks to my my shorts when I ride it!

My mtb saddle is a bit like that. It seems to get damaged mainly by other people when it's parked. Not malicious, it's just the knocks from everyday use.

Interesting. I wanted a new saddle for my new secondhand bike. I had thought of a nice brown leather one, maybe a Brooks, but I asked the guy in my local shop what he'd choose and (despite there being many more expensive saddles to choose from) told me the Charge Spoon was the best one, and he has them on all of his own bikes.

Only £20 in the sale, looks great, but I've not ridden the bike enough yet to comment on comfort - whilst fitting it the seat post bracket split in half, so I've been waiting on a new part, now fitted, and the weekend is coming!

Which one have you ordered. I've looked on their web site and their is about 4 different ones and I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to spend to much i.e £60 TO £70 and finsh up with same problem (numb nuts) Just advice really.
