I can see it as having some value, though the footfall won't be great.

And I'd be very wary of us non-brommie folderers being singled out as the enemy by the rest of you.

as a special interests thing?

IMO there is a case for a folders sub-forum; however, a couple of years ago, a few of us proposed a similar section for 'Vintage Bikes' - and the idea was 'flamed' by quite a few forummers on the the grounds that 'there wouldn't be enough interest'. The sad aspect about all this, was that the proposed new sub-forum was actually about 'Vintage Bikes' - ie., something directly related to cycling. Some members with political grievances, couldn't resist trying to settle old scores and slated the idea from the outset.

https://www.cyclechat.net/

The 'Identifying Viking Frame' has had over 2,500 views; 'Small Wheeled Road Bikes' has had over 2,200 views, 'Vintage Dawes Galaxy Touring Frame' has had 2,000 views; and the 'Rory O'Brien' thread has had over 23,500 views. Hardly 'Not enough interest ?'

In my opinion, non-members must have been 'pulled' onto the forum in order to create such a high number (c. 30,000) of thread views. Rather than seek to retain these potential members, it was suggested that they join such sites as Retrobike etc.

Looking back at previous pages in this section, Flying Monkey opened two threads on his Brompton - the total views for them, is over 12,000 ! IMO, there is enough interest for a folders section.

I wish you luck with your proposal.

a folders section and a hub gears section, I quite like the way MTBR does it in this respect, I think as much as anything for the ability to have a series of stickies at the top of each section.

Although I'm a Brompton owner, I'm not sure what I'd gain from a folders section - although some technical questions are folder-specific, not all are, and I think I would be concerned that I was loosing the expertise of people who "don't know anything about folders" - but might know about Sturmey Archer 3-speed hubs, for example.

Roadcraft questions are bike-independent, and I'm sure I'm not the only person who has other bicycles as well as the folder...

Edited to congratulate Byegad on the jokes....

Trends wise, I think there is a case for moving Fixed and Singlespeed into its own main category now as there seems to have been a resurgence of interest over the past couple of years - we've even got a specialist shop in Hull now selling Fixed as it's main course, with a smattering of Dutch (Mary Poppin's style) bicycles for "afters".

The vintage bikes thread is two years old. My suggestion at the time was to post vintage bike threads here in Special Interests forum and see how many threads we have about them in maybe 12 months time. Well it has been 24 months so how does it look now? Would there be enough vintage bike threads to warrant a sub-forum of their own?

Folders have also grown in popularity in recent years, but is there enough interest and threads to warrant a separate sub-forum?

What - apart from their foldiness - is so different about them?

Cheers,
Shaun
