Did a short ride on the new road bike yesterday.

Few inclines on the ride and did a 33km in 1h 30mins, that was with a head wind on the return journey.

So, is this an ok time? I was a bit dissapointed as i thought i'd be faster! And i need to adjust the height of the saddle a little bit plus cleats as my knees are a bit sore today.

The only person who thinks it is not an ok time is you!
Don't get obsessed with times, I cycled about 70K yesterday and have little idea how long it took me, but I enjoyed it.

+1

Don't get hung up about it, head winds will always have an effect, that is just the way it is, the only person you are competing against is your self and that is the one person you aren't going to beat...

Took my cycle computer off the bike - right off. I prefer it without although when cycling in the mountains it was quite interesting to know the gradient sometimes.

Where you are, speedwise, is where you are.

It works out at 13mph, so if you want to get faster then the only real solution is practice/protein to build up leg muscle.

Improvement can and does take time in cycling - so be patient.

i have a cycle computer on both bikes, more for milage than anything else.On the road bike my average speed is between 17-18 mph, has been for ages. Dont even look at av. speed on the MTB, just look at the milage clocking up.

Cheers all for your comments....i love my computers :-) Have a polar CS100b which is ok...although i dont know exactly how accurate it is.

Was my first time out on the road bike so thought i'd be a bit quicker than I was in the end. Being on a roadie was a revelation for me (as it probably is for most) how much quicker you can accelerate out of corners and also the loss of stability compared to getting out of the saddle and pushing hard (almost bucked myself off) but also one thing i wasn't expecting was how quick the inertia fell away when going up hill.

If i think back to when i was 13-16 I was doing 60mile rides then with my dad and we were doing averages higher than the 13mph/h here.

I know am quicker than 13mph avg too especially as i've avg'd over 14mph during a 26miler. That was in a group of other riders though so perhaps its more of a mental thing.

Im taking part in the essex 100 (as in miles not km's) on sept 5th and at that pace am way off my target time.....oh well....time to beast myself on the turbo.
