in my young day Trojans were the guys who made off with Helen of Troy. Then, heaven knows how, they morphed in to prophylactics. Now they're unseemly electronic bitbobs that steal your passwords and tell your friends that you're sending them gay porn.

I uninstalled Kaspersky and installed Bit Defender. Mr. Defender tells me he's killing more Trojans than Achilles - he's the dude in the dressing gown, and, no, this is not gay porn, this is art.

At the same time a product called Antivirus is marketing itself to me virally. I'm all confused. Should I just let Bit (as I shall call him from now on) get on with the job, or do I need Antivirus?

Oh, and wtf was Kaspersky doing, letting all these Trojans in by the back door?

How much does it cost to Oldham?
I was assaulted by the denizens of troy myself recently. Some hefty doormen from microsoft (believe it or not) sent them skidding chin-first onto the pavement quick smart.

Security essentials i believe they were called. FOC as well.

Dell, don't mess with the Antivirus, it is actually a virus itself, if you can get online then go to:-

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

and download the free version, if you struggle to get online then go via another computer and download to a memory stick. Then you can start your own machine in safe mode and upload then.

+ a million for malware bytes, make sure you update its database before starting the scan though, the initial download wont be up to date (april I think)

Antivirus that is flashing up is probably part of the problem not the solution, let malware bytes deal with it.

Malwarebytes is only a scan on demand type prog though, couldn't comment on bit defender but AntiVir (note similar name - not same though) is a half decent free anti virus prog (only bothers you once with a pop up for each update). If you are going to pay for an anti virus prog i recommend Kaspersky, avoid norton and mcafee.

When you had Kaspersky, did you keep it up to date and allow its daily updates? If older than 12 months did you pay to renew the subscription? It would still run but not update itself if out of date.

Tip: Pesky windows that wont go away (remember that just because a button says 'close' doesn't mean it's actually programmed to do so on nasty malware), can be forced to close by pressing ALT and F4 together, this closes the currently active window so dont get over excited with it if another window has something you've spent a lot of time on or you lose it which has happened to me a few times.

Malwarebytes is good but I had a problem on my laptop and a Trojan Remover program fixed it.I was really lucky.I scraped it up from an old disk.
