Okay so its Friday, work is quiet and somewhat inevitably youtube is calling to me from the corner of my system tray.

Driven by a recent interest in the glorious Mary J Blige, I stumbled upon a duet of hers and was struck by a single lyric.

So...what one liners (not entire songs please) do you consider "worthy"...be they influential, philosophical, funny or sad, what stopped and made you think a bit.

for me its.

"we're one but we're not the same...we get to carry each other".

Apologies if this has been done before a quick search revealed nothing

"But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate"

Gill Scott Heron: The revolution will not be televised

Butt Hole Surfers: I knew he would do something very odd...
Come on everybody, now you've got to understand
In these times of revolution well you've got to be a little sensitive

Bob Dylan: Some of the people can be all right part of the time,
But all the people can't be all right all the time.
I think Abraham Lincoln said that.
I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours.
I said that.
Had to google that bit

to remember just what you are.

good shout!

"...and your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick" is a favourite... in fact Ian Anderson of Jethro tull is one of my favourite lyricists.

I was going to add a line from My Old Man by Ian Dury... but every line in that song is poetic perfection.

ah yes, The Hollies, the opening lines to The Air That I Breathe...

"If I could make a wish I think I'd pass
Can't think of anything I need
No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound
Nothing to eat, no books to read"

and from Simon and Garfunkel's America
"...She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy... i said be careful his bow tie is really a camera... and the moon rose over a open field..."

The Boxer:
"...Every glove that laid him down or cut him 'til he cried out in his anger and his shame"

and finally, Roy Harpers Feeling All The Saturday:
"I've got a brother he's one year old, he wear a zappy little nappy, he squeezes the contents through the cot rails, what a very crappy little chappy."
