@Richard A Thackeray You had a Poxhaul Shove-it, eh? I had a choice between a Chevette on an Allegro as my first car. Being a testosterone and Clearasil fuelled 17 year old wannabe lothario, I chose the Allagro because it was a 1750. Bad move - the Chevette may have been slower, but at least I'd have had a sporting chance of completing and given journey.

I bet the old Marin's still going very doubtful the Chevette is

And love those leggings ^_^

Up until two years ago, the Bear Valley was still working, as my friend, who swapped the 'Ally O' for it, was using the 'BV' as a work-bike (on slicks, with mudguards)

The leggings were Troll rock-climbing tights

I'd have a Chevette today, but it'd have to be a 2300HS (or HSR)

My PMs stem was too 'high-rise', I got one for a 'Clockwork', when CentreSport were still in Leeds, & a dealer

Must admit i would prefer a flatter one , some where in the garage i have a Girvin "flex" stem that i could fit

[QUOTE 5197474, member: 43827"]I love the 90s Marin mountain bikes and have had a few. The Bear Mountain was a great workhorse, the Eldridge Grade was a lovely bike to ride, but perhaps my favourite was the nickel-plated Team Issue which I rescued from the dump, complete with Hope disk brakes, Hope Ti glide hubs, Machine Tech levers, XTR mechs and Cook Bros cranks. Kept it for a couple of years then split and sold it to fund other bike projects.

That was some dump fine for sure

Chevette v Talbot Sunbeam Lotus. The theoretical decisions you contemplated when you were younger!

My dad had a 1750 sport and it got us all the way down to the south of France and back.

Tough decision for sure either mimic Russell Brooks or Henri Toivenen ?

Anyway a glorious 32 miles on the Marin this morning hard work with the knobbly tyres but fun either way.

Similar, but an older version. Virtually identical to this...

Same colour and everything, although mine was rather more beaten up. T'was 1750 with a twin barrel carb, so for its day was actually very swift, but mine rarely ran properly on 2 consecutive days.

Had an old fashioned roof rack, used to bungee my bike onto it.

Sand Glow, later used on the Camel Trophy Land Rovers (which are still very coveted!!)

Of the two, it has to be the Talbot in that black and silver colour scheme. Though adding a mark two Escort into the mix would complicate that choice.
