Mavic rims in general are good, that is why a lot of people use them.

I've got the 717 disc rims on my mountain bike and they are fine. Not buckled them or had them run out of true.

I use mavic rims and mavic do a lot of rims so I cannot say if the rims are ones I use, unless I go downstair to look..... but I have no complaints.

why 36 hole? trend is for fewer spoke, i,e, 32 ... no doubt you have the hubs already with 36 holes.

Both rims are good. You may already have gathered this but the 719 is wider than the 717 (the last two digits of the rim number are the width in mm). Question is what terrain you want to ride them on?

IMHO 36 spokes is perfectly sensible for building a durable MTB wheel.
