Music query

I've been listening to random music on Youtube, and there's a song I'd like to hear, but can't remember the title or group to look it up...

It's all sort of about late at night on empty streets and stuff and includes the chorus "and nothing really happens (or is it 'matters?'), nothing happens at all, and the needle returns to the start of the song and we all carry on like before" - or something like that anyway. I think it'll be late 80's ish.

Help! What's the title? I'm off home now, but I'm sure someone will have got it by tomorrow!

Yes. It reminds me of my psycho ex who used to like the bland insipid rubbish which is del amitri, and other bland guitar bands.
