So arriving at my dad's last night after work i find son #2 sat with a couple of towel's wrapped around his knee and my dad saying "don't worry i've called an ambulance"

On what planet would the phrase "i've called an ambulance" NOT make me worry?
anyhoo, son #2 who is 5 has gone and ran around behind the greenhouse where he's not supposed to and there's some old terracotta pots there one of which was broken and he's gone and dove on it.
He'd cut his knee open pretty badly, about a 4.5cm cut to the left of his kneecap, it was deep because there was visible fatty tissue and my old man was claiming to see bone (don't panic mr mainwaring!)

kids are funny tho, he wouldn't let anybody see it until we covered his eyes, and he demanded his teddy raja (a tiger) but he didn't cry the whole time, a bit when he first cut it but didn't cry at any other point. got a bit worried when we mentioned stitches tho.

one sedative and a tonne of gas and air later and he's all stitched up. numbed most of it with a gel before they used the local with a needle which was the only bit that stung, and i watched quite fascinated as he laughed and said "it tickles" whilst they put 3 deep stitches in to keep the tissue together then used a running suture for the skin.
also really impressed with the local hosi, in and out within about 4 - 4 1/2 hours and the wife got to take his x-rays (don't worry she works there as a radiologist)
this morning he was gingerly limping about.
phoned my mum earlier and she has to keep shouting at him to stop running around lol!
kids really do bounce well.

i'd have cried like a big girl the whole time

He'll be fine, I'm sure!

I remember amusing my family when I was about 4 because I had fallen and cut my knee (nothing as serious as your post) and was happily walking about afterwards until it was pointed out I was bleeding.

Only on seeing the blood did I start to cry. What a stupid kid I was!

Sounds like a nasty wound but kids are resilient. Physically they heal up fast and don't understand the concept of "taking it easy" to help it get better. As long as not too much damage is done and there's someone there to give them a cuddle it's all part of their learning process.

But you're right, they are amazing and I think I'd have been making quite a fuss if I'd got a cut like that.

Hope the little fella is ok:thumbsup:

Uber cute moment yesterday morning when he got up.
he complained about his leg hurting, and said "But the doctor said he'd fixed it!"
5 year old logic ;)

he's doing fine so far, wound check later by the doc.
still amazed at how quick he's bounced. i reckon after 7-10 days he'll be out running around normally again.

My mother (before I was born, but only just) once leaned over the edge of a balcony on which she and Dad had taken refuge, and called out to their landlady, who'd run out into the garden screaming.

"Don't worry, Mrs O'Connell, the house is on fire".

The fire was all on the first floor where we were, but the landlady lived downstairs, and had woken knowing something was wrong, but not what. She thought it was burglars, hence the scream.

Many years later, she calmed my sister one night when they woke with the house shaking, with "Don't worry, it's an earthquake".

(but only a British one, so not very big)
