I've been looking at getting myself a new flat bar after selling my voodoo limba cyclo cross. Originally had my heart set on something with discs but every expert I have spoken too has said v brakes are all I need on the road, less weight and easier to maintain. Almost took the plunge on a Boardman but due to comfort issues (neck, back and shoulder) I decided against that as I couldn't get a test ride.

Narrowed it down to 2 bikes, the Trek 7.5fx and the specialised sirrus comp. Tried the trek first as it was a 2010 discounted model. Didn't like it at all, felt very skittish, the grips felt to narrow (and I don't have big hands) and the seat was very harsh and I'd change it instantly! Hopped on the sirrus and instantly it felt perfect, much better position, solid on the road, comfortable grips, bar ends and saddle so I brought it!!

Should be delivered on Tuesday hopefully collect then or maybe Wednesday (as I also purchased a rack, guards and lights which are being fitted).

I cannot wait, my first brand new bike since 1996!!!

Just need to decide on a stem mounted computer now!

That's the place 4F!

Had a look at the bianchi's in elmys too but they didn't really float my boat! Think the sirrus comp is gorgeous and in a way I'm glad it was the one that felt right!

Broke my Sirrus 06 sport on the way home last night. Rediscovered a nasty pothole, covered by torrents of water running off the fields over the road and down the hill Misjudged my positioning in the road and caught the edge, back wheel took the brunt, popped 2 spokes, hairline crack on the frame just above the non drive side dropout.

Great bike which has thousands of miles on it, used all year round and has never let me down.

Ouch SB, great excuse for a new one though!

And yes I'll be using it more often than not to commute to work. About 5.5 miles each way so not far but really looking forward to doing it on a new bike rather than my 15 year old heavy, incorrectly geared for the road mtb!

First ride to work, took a slightly longer route (8 miles) and i know i've made the right choice going back to flat bar. So much more comfortable, better vision, better access to brakes (and better brakes at that!).

I really enjoyed the ride and will be cycling more and more i think!
