Went out for a (now rare) ride with my local MTB club last night, BAD or Blackburn and District. What a blast! I'd forgotten how much fun it is night riding, belting down the lanes and byways with a good powerful HID lamp and scattering rabbits, terrifying the local population, dog walkers, curdling the cows'milk..... not to mention the craic being out with half a dozen like-minded riders. Conditions were fantastic, warm, almost bone dry, no wind, although to my shame I discovered a couple of things on the MTB that have siezed up a little since I last rode it in the snow, some road salt must have got in..... better do some maintenance tonight.

Give it a go, you'll love night riding.

I did my first a few weeks back, and I agree, it is a hoot.
I do need some better lights though.

Wait.... late summer a lot of lights have come way down in price. I got my Nuke Proof Reactor for £90 last July, down from over £200. You don't need the latest gear, so sale time is good. eBay may also prove a happy hunting ground this year as people upgrade.
