Online/Offline Status

How come some people don't show up as being online when they quite clearly are because they're posting?

My mom's out at the moment.

Mine is unchecked now so I'm invisible but it still shows up as me being online (to me). Am I online? Do I even exist, is any of this real? I'm going for a lie down.

I've checked it again now as I've just remembered I couldn't care less.

You can see you're online - obviously - but others can't if you've selected not to show your online status - but even with that set some still can see you're online if they're mods or Admin - so you can tell all of the time when you're online, but some can and some can't, whilst at the same time others can (but others can't) tell, even when you set it so others can't tell because it doesn't work for everyone, but does work for most.

Hopefully that clears it up for you.
