Play in back wheel

Hi all

Got about 3mm play in the back wheel and no matter how tight the wheel is its still there.

Could this be a hub problem? If so how do I fix and how much at LBS? Thanks

Sounds like you need a hub service, might be simply the cones and lock nut need nipping up or new bearings, although I'd recommend looking at the state of the bearings, cone surface etc first. If you need new ball bearings I'd say around £9.00. If they are sealed bearings expect to pay a bit more.

£9 is a bit steep for the bearings, unless that is front and rear; my last set for the rear were £3.50 about a month ago and inflation isn't that high

Last set of cartidge bearings cost me about £8 although you can probably get them a bit cheaper as I know trade places are charging joe blogs a much higher GP than the account customers.
