I currently have the cheaper M520 mtb pedals on my Secteur Elite and I have been quite happy with them so far. I am more of a leisure rider than racer, but have seen these XT M770 pedals. Both seem to be well rated, but are the more expensive pedals worth the extra? If so can you tell me why please. I feel that I want to buy the best, but would it be just buying for the sake of it!

Here for rides.
If you are a Shimanophile and you want to buy the best then surely you want xtr stuff?

Now are xtr M970 spd's 5 x better than M520's? are they even 2 x better than M770's? Are M770's twice as good as M520's? Who knows?

Wait until the M520's die and then change them would be my advice and spend the money you save on cakes and ale or your significant other.

Agree with Greg.

Unless you're racing at a high level you'll not notice any difference.

The M520s are (pound for pound) the best Shimanos SPDs in my opinion. The others are effectively the same pedals with lighter materials. In Shimano world, lighter material often means less durability.
