Returned from Europe this weekend. Spent time in the Pyrenees looking at properties and saw a few we liked.

So thought I'd make some online enquiries tonight regarding the cost of getting our belongings to Spain from Jo'burg

Options include shipping direct to Spain. Shipping to the UK and then van-ing stuff to Spain ourselves. Selling up here and re-buying in Spain etc

Doesn't look particularly cheap, whichever way you cut it :-(

Any recommendations or advice regarding international shipping companies etc would be appreciated.

:-)

You need a 'consolidator' in South Africa.
The shipping companies themselves are not interested in anything less than 100 containers. A consolidator is someone that fill containers with part loads, and then collects together enough containers for the shipping company to be interested.
Whilst the 'actual' cost of getting a container from Durban to Algerciras is in the order of USD 6-800, you will pay at least three times that figure

Cheers Brains.

We have enough stuff to fill a 6m or even 12m container. Once we go through a third-party though, the cost may become prohibitive.

Will see what I can find this side.
