Uugh! I'm just emerging from one of those weekends that you wish had never happened.

It promised to be a nice weekend, the inlaws were coming up, which the kids love and we planned a large family dinner which although hard work is nice. However, it's amazing how it can all change quickly.

By the end of it my mother was in hospital (she has MND and is in for aspiration pneumonia, although she is now improving), a very good friend of my inlaws died, our house just won't sell, and as we approach Christmas probably won't, which is a bummer as my wife is pregnant with our third child so we need more space (and better schools), the kids and the wife all came down with a nasty cold bug (not swine flu, but not far off) so the kids have been very grumpy, and my knee (had three ops in the past) has decided to bu@@er itself up again and feels like some more cartilage is damaged.

I know that it could have been worse, but sometimes it just makes you feel better ranting about it!

On a brighter note, I am due to have a huge lottery within the next two weeks. So I'll update this thread when it happens!

Unlucky Mags, hope they all get well really soon, is the knee keeping you off the bike ?

No, everything else is!

My knee actually feels fine when I'm on the bike. It gets stiff and sore when I sit down for any length of time.

99% sure it is cartilage as I've had cartilage problems before. The problem is, I've had so much work done on the knee already, I'm not sure if another op would make it better or worse. I will have to have a trip to the docs (and maybe a sneaky MRI scan at work!)

It gets like that with young kids sometimes, deep breath and keep going through the tunnel. I think I've got cartilage problems too, my x-rays were all clear. We might be able to compare notes soon.

Thanks guys. I'm fairly philosophical about it all. Just good to rant on here sometimes!

It just felt like the perfect storm at the weekend.

Crackle, sorry to hear about the knee. I'm a bit of an expert on knees, unfortunately. I assume you will be going for an MRI?

Not seeing anything on the x-ray is good, as this means there is no significant arthritis. Having had a lot of work on my right knee, I'm afraid that I am probably well on the road to Mr Arthur Ritus' house. It's a nice ride on the way though!

It is very good to rant about it on here. Gawd, I remember well, about 3 Xmas's on the run, everyone having colds and bugs and the whole thing being very miserable, those days do pass though but with No.3 just on the way, you've still got a few years of them, you crazy fool

Yes x-rays being clear is kinda good, I was convinced my knees were arthritic but I'm now reasonably certain it's cartilage problems. I get the stiff ache after excercise, sometimes just permanently. Recently it's been good but now I have to go back to my useless GP and tell him what follow up I want and maybe cancel the physio which I don't think will do me any good.

Sorry to hear of you woes, Mags! Especially the knee!

Sounds like you should be moving to warmer climes (and easier climbs). ;)

Hope things improve soon.

Sorry to raise an old thread.

Unfortunately things did get worse. My mother who appeared to be improving with treatment only improved for a short time and soon deteriorated. Unfortunately on Saturday morning she passed away (although it was very peaceful). It was very sad. However, as she had MND and had lost a lot of weight (muscle) had she got better and out of hospital, she would have been much more disabled and would not have had anywhere the quality of life that she had had up to then.

I won't be posting on (and haven't been) for a few days. However, I will be back and I am determined to do something to help raise money towards some MND charities and our local hospice.

That's sad Mags, sorry to hear your news. Hope things go better in time. (I lost a relative who had MND, it really is a hateful condition. )

Stay strong.
