This person just opened their door without looking. Good job I was not in the door zone.

But you moved back into the door zone right after when the car passed you . Someone didn't learn a lesson .

Good advice. You have to ride a surprisingly far way out in order to avoid the risk of somebody flinging open a door as you pass and swiping you. The chances of reacting can be absolutely minimal. I used to worry about "holding up" the traffic behind. I don't care about that now but I try and ride as fast as possible on narrow stretches.

Apparently it's an offence if you open your door and a cyclist has to swerve to avoid a collision. Contact isn't even necessary.

Good Advice ... I was riding down a road with my cousin who was new to cycling at the time, I had told him to move into a more central position as he was too close to he door zone, Within about 30 seconds of him moving out a door was opened that would have wiped him out ... we both nearly crashed laughing thou!

Beating a roofer!!!!! That may not have been the best piece of thinking, judging by the roofers I've worked with.
I know , hes built like a brick poo house but was knocked out by the door . He did however sort the problem out when his collar bone healed like you would expect from any decant roofer

I've been doored whilst filtering up the inside of cars, I'm now much more careful of that too.
I was once filtering slowly up the inside of a stationary traffic jam when the bus driver opened his doors to let someone off (they were obviously bored waiting to travel the final 10 yards to the stop).

I managed to come to a kind of cross between an emergency stop and falling off with a modicum of dignity without coming into contact with the lady getting off.

We then got into an apologising competition. I was convinced that I was in the wrong and shouldn't have been filtering down the inside there. She was insistent that she was in the wrong, and should have looked before getting off the bus. It nearly came to blows. ^_^
