If my wife has one of these:-

can she swap the outer chainring for something like this:-

in green.... yes she has a green MTB. Needs a new crankset, and like the idea of a green outer chain ring.
what are you supposed to do

Basically I guess are chainrings interchangeable usually?

Shouldn't be a problem at all. I take it the new one has the same number of teeth?

So long as the BCD is the same, 104 for these I think, it will fit and as far as i can tell, they are both 104 but worth a double check. The inner will most likely be 64 BCD.

Ok, thanks. I knew the BCD had to be the same, just wasn't sure about thicknesses of the plate it was cut from and hence offsets etc. but assumed it had to be the same for compatability purposes as it seems you can build your own up from different pieces if you want to- never done that.
