I'm in the process of looking for a cheap tandem.

One I've found has an 'adjustable chain tensioner' on the tube between the two bottom brackets. I've not seen one in the flesh yet, but I'm assuming it's used as a much cheaper alternative to an EBB.

Any opinions / experience of this sort of thing?

I fully appreciate that the bike I've linked to is a bit cheap and nasty, but it will suffice for what I want - just a bit dubious that this chain tensioning method will work?

As long as it's on the bottom run of the timing chain it shouldn't be a problem.
