when cut, colored liquid inside the entire length of the Smart Lock explodes forth unto the thief! The thief then proceeds to appear to have wizzed his or her pants. The liquid also stains the surrounding area.

Hmmmmm. Cute but probably not much use. A bit like those locks with a built in alarm. Easily bypassed by a thief who keeps abreast of lock-tech. Yes it will deter the casual thief, but so will half a dozen cable-ties.

They should also put a really stinky perfume into it, something strong that will linger for hours.

I don't think things like this work, in the same way that fighting the terrorists doesn't work - instead you have to win their hearts and minds. I think that something like the Quit! anti-smoking campaign should be instituted to dissuade people from stealing bikes, get the rate down from five bikes per thousand to three over four years, say.
