Now winters on its way what are the best recommendations for good, but not too expensive, thermal cycling tights - NOT BIBS PLEASE, and also good thermal base layers to keep warm on these cold winter days

It depends on your budget/ethics and whether you prefer cycling specific clothing. I use Primark thermal leggings under my trousers, they are a fiver. They might do a men's thermals too

yep sorry,

they have to be padded also so yes would be cycling specific

Not padded, but I use Leg warmers from Aldi. For £14 they do the job perfectly for the cold winter mornings. <BR>

Buy some bibs from Impsport and cut the straps off, way to warm for wearing this early in the year.

Me too, very warm and fleecey. Wore mine the other day but was way too warm really, still on the Summer cruisers at the minute.

I don't ride with padding, never have done, I normally use bamboo support trunks under them, if it gets very cold I'll add a pair of long johns.

Bib shorts underneath, or padded undershorts if it's a short ride.

I wear Ronhill Bikester DXB cycling trousers. They are not tights but not baggy either and are unpadded, I think that they are great. I wear padded DHB undershorts underneath. If it is really cold I also wear a pair of Helly Hansen Lifa base layer undertrousers also. This setup works really well for me.

I've got loads of those primark thermals which I wear on the motorbike, I'm hoping that I can use them while riding too, although I'm not sure what to put over them.
