A further document reveals how, on 21 February 1982, a group of customers and staff at a Tunbridge Wells pub reported an unknown object with green and red flashing lights - seen heading in the direction of Gatwick airport.
Doh!
However, when I was 16, me and a bunch of mates were camping near Newquay... one evening, practically the whole campsite was out at dusk going "ooh" and "aah" and pointing up at this strange, large, stationary object in the sky. Pretty much everyone was convinced it was a UFO of some sort... after 20 mins, the clouds moved apart, revealing a perfectly normal (if rather large and red) moon! How we laughed, all the way to the bar (where the barman again refused to serve us, cos we were only 16, so we had to try our luck at the pub, but that was a 2 mile walk, but anyway, I'm digressing....)
