Cycling in to work has been a bit of a revelation for me over the last few days and before the "initial" novelty wears off, I thought I'd record some of the things that I've noticed while on a bike that I have never seemed to notice before.

I'll probably have forgotten them all by the winter, so here goes:

Hills (They're everywhere, where did they come from!!!)

Drains and potholes (man they hurt)

Speed humps (those suckers are massive!!)

Rain… UP MY NOSE (off the front wheel and straight up…there's a first…must get mudguards)

Warm sun

Cool shade

Head winds (ARRRGH!)

Tail winds (a gift!)

Side winds (Whoaaaa!!)

Smells -coffee shops, patisseries, dumper trucks (pheweee) perfume, dog shat

The view of the Thames at 7.30 am (breath taking)

Noises, conversations, good music (and bad), arguments

Vibrations (those lorry's can really "shake it" all up)

Paint on the road, (How slippy is that!?!)

People (they're everywhere…all over the place)

My lower back (didn't know I had a muscle there)

Other cyclists (kinda invisible up till now, now every one is a new friend to be made….. and an competitor to loose!!!!)

Diesel fumes (filthy)

Fly's (who would have thought they can hurt so much?!)

Fly's part II (Who would have thought they could taste so bad)

Fly's Part III (Who would have thought they could get "so" stuck in the back of your throat)

Grit, gravel and broken glass (strewn throughout no-mans land in the middle of the road)

Loose trousers (seriously after only a few days!)

Anger (some people are just plain bonkers)

Generosity (some people are just plain kind)

And

Self satisfaction, (no more wasted time sitting in a car getting fatter and fatter)

And the wonderful thing is, it will feel different every day, in a way that a journey in a vehicle just doesn't.

speed bumps are great, best time to gain some space from cars.

I love the combination of the speed bumps with a gap in the middle and a moton who simply HAS to get past me. :bravo:

The thing about the winds is definite.

Gorgeous women - Dont tell my missus that.
Amount of drivers on mobile phones
Amount of confidence you can gain in just a few days and with a few bad experiences as well as good.
How much of a joy descending and drafting buses is (even though i look pretty stupid doing that on an MTB)

That's pretty much the one thing which always surprises me - just how BIG road stuff is. Signage, road markings, speed bumps the whole lot - you really don't notice how large it is in the car, but when you're outside and more human-sized, its mahoosive.
