Hoping someone may be able to advise .....
I bought a pair of thule 591's on ebay and they were being sold as new. They arrived today in black bin liners and lots of sellotape!!!
Both carriers are in good condition BUT ... Only 1 set of keys to fit the first carrier. NO keys for the 2nd carrier :-(

Certain bolts are the wrong length and one set of three (for fixing carrier to aero "T" bars are missing.

(1) Do i send them all back and get my money back.
(2) do i order the relevant bits from www.thulespareparts.co.uk and get a refund from the seller to the amount
(3) can the lock that locks the bike to 591 be replaced? I know the one that locks the carrier to the roof bars can be ordered

Thanks for any help - really peeved that people try and mug me on Ebay. And this seller has a count of 347 with 100% feedback!!!!

Contact the seller and try to solve the issue that way.

1 - Your choice, but I'd send them back for a refund. The responsibility for safe delivery lies with the seller - you should not have to faff about getting their f'up sorted
2 - if you decide to 'keep and sort' then get the spares off Thule themsleves... it might work out cheaper
3 - Yes, but you need the key to remove the lock (obviously), unless you want to get medieval on them- but you can order spare key from the number stamped into the lock

He has replied and asked for photos. I will send him pictures of his packaging???? And the lock minus a key???
If the lock that "locks" the upright can be found, then i'm inclined to keep the pair. If he doesm't have that key then a full refund inc my return postage.

Thanks for the advice lads

Before you order the spare bits from the Thule web site, it's worth checking Halfords. I'm not a Halfords fan, but they were extremely helpful ordering the three new bolts I needed to swap a pro-ride from aero bars to normal bars, at what seemed to be a low price too.

That's if you don't send it back of course!

Or, get him to pay for the spares.

FWIW I bet the set of keys you've got will probably fit both sets of bars. The locks used on these sorts of things, (same with vehicle roof bars), are very generic in nature, and often even have the key number visibly stamped on the end of the barrel, (making replacement keys easy to get).

I've often found that one set of keys operates many different sets of bars/carriers in the past.

Reading that back it sounds incredibly dodgy doesn't it? It's not, I work in the motor trade and have dealt with these things for many years.

Also, if you decide to keep them, (fantastic carriers BTW), then THIS site has been incredibly helpful with me in the past for Thule spares.

He will be paying for the spares or else ebay will be informed and he can have his stuff back.
The thing that really irks me is he sold them as "NEW" !!!!
I suspect his one is new ish and he got another one cheap .... Sold them on as a pair without checking the second carrier carefully.
Either way i have him over a barrel with Ebay/paypal for selling stuff without original packaging etc
