Anyone here planning to do any of these events? 12 mile, military style, obtacle course, with lots of mud, water, fire, electic shock wires, barbed wire, nettles, water tunnels and more mud!

http://toughmudder.co.uk/events/south-eastmidlands/

I've got a team in it for the East Midlands event at Boughton House in May - 4 in the team so far; we could do some more - got a few 'maybes' at the moment.

Should be fun - I think!

Will hopefully be assembling a team of 'soft southerners' for the Brighton one. Looks like a really good laugh.

What sort of training program are you thinking of? We're trying do a range of cross country running (there are some good fields with streams etc near me) and lots of general gymage. Not sure what else we can do without joining the TA or something!

I do a track run once a week - up to 6km now, hoping to build it and am back cycle commuting 75 miles a week. That plus a couple of judo sessions a week - my team is made up of 40 something judo players - I'm hoping should see me through.

I did Tough Guy a few weeks ago which looks similar. Great fun until the water started getting neck height for me. Sinking under the cold water was a killer. It's all good humoured and there's a great atmosphere between competitors. You'll have a great time :-)

How long after the "water up to the neck" obstacles did it take to warm up? Were they always followed by a bit of a run to allow you to warm up?

The water was only waist to stomach height for the first 2/3rds with plentiful running in between. When the water got higher the obstacles got closer together. There was a lot of queuing for obstacles and I never got warm after that. It stopped being so much fun at that point and was more like hard work. I ran backwards and forwards between the same two obstacles at one point to try and warm up. I'd been advised by two people who'd done it before to run as fast as I could at the start to beat the queues at the obstacles towards the end of the course. I took it a bit easier as I was worried about my fitness. Shouldn't have bothered as I was fine from a cardio point of view. A lot of the people taking part aren't runners. I'm not great but can cover that kind of distance and not be too knackered.

The water temperature was only a problem because it was January. There was a very thin layer of ice on the water before everyone started jumping in and the weather forcast said it was between -1 and 3 degrees for the event day. It had been a lot colder the previous two years  Even jumping into water up to the stomach and back out again followed by runing it was still a lot of fun and no problem, just the initial shock when jumping in. No one had trouble there at all and atmosphere was superb.

If you're doing Tough Mudder in May it'll be fantastic ^_^ I've got a race that weekend otherwise I'd be up for another one. Tough guy nettle warrior for me in July instead. If you can get over to Wolverhampton it'd be a good one to do if you enjoy the Tough Mudder event.

Just 4 days to go and it looks like the 'drought' will have truly prepared the ground for a good event!

I'm also attempting to raise some charity money for Help for Heroes, so if anyone would like to donate even a £ or 2, it will all go to a good cause and you can donate direct here: https://www.raceit.com/fundraising/fundraise.aspx?event=6522&fundraiser=6496

Many thanks to all who feel they can give a £.

For everyone - the photos and videos will be online after the weekend! :training:

Well, it was a brilliant day. Very tough on the knees and pretty cold towards the end from the cumulative dunkings and the electric shocks were vicious. But strangely addictive... we are planning the next one...
