I am trying to transfer some routes from MapmyRoute to my Garmin device. I have managed to get the route as a GPX file on my desktop, and transfer it to the Garmin device new files on my PC whilst my Garmin is plugged in. The data is not physically showing on my Garmin device under courses however, even though the PC is showing it as being in the Garmin file. Is there something I'm missing? I managed to transfer one route from Garmin Connect to the device, but for some reason these others aren't showing Please could someone assist, this is most frustrating. Thank you in anticipation.

Garmin is very fussy about file names and where they are.

If you save as a TCX or CRS route then it will work.

I tend to use the download to device option for this reason as it resolves these issues.

The garmin seems to automatically turn off anyway when plugged into the PC, so I have tried the turning off and on thing. Thank you.
Can you download to the device direct from the mapmyroute website, as I couldn't see that for Garmin?

I believe the 500 is the same you are limited to waypoints/ detail; the route that went is probably far less complicated. What I've done before is broke up routes into several sections or plotted less complicated routes rather than including every bend in the road.

Fantastic, thank you, I will try that. You have been very helpful. Computers can be so frustrating!

Map my ride is not designed for Garmin it is designed for "smart devices".

Us any of the online planners such as GPSies, Bikeroutetoaster, or BikeHike and they will all download.

The plot thickens! I have installed Garmin Training Center, yet when I go to import the files which are on my desktop, the desktop doesn't have all the items showing when I choose where to import data from. e.g. all it shows is Libraries, Computer, Network and System folder, but all the other items physically on my desktop are missing. Help! Thank you.

I use ridewithgps it has an option to send to device which is simple to use.

Think the Garmin training should be export to send info to GPS, import is to get from GPS to computer.
