I was just wondering which of these would be best for cycling on cycle tracks (not roads! maybe occasionally, but mainly off road)

Garmin eTrex Venture HC GPS

Or

Garmin Forerunner 205

I like the way the Forerunner plots where you have been so you can find your way back, but AFAIK it does not let you save a route and follow it.

Also I'm not sure if the eTrex Venture lets you plot off-road routes.

The eTrex is a handheld unit and the Forerunner is a watch, which do you think is best suited for cycling?

Why the Forerunner? Garmin make the Edge for cyclists.

The Edge 205/305 is made for cyclists. Has return to start and lets you download routes.

I have the 305, fantastic. Lets me plan a route the night before and then set off knowing that there are no unknowns! I use http://www.mapmyride.com/ for route planning, save as *.gpx and copy to the 305, easy!

Plus you can upload the stats after a ride:biggrin:
