Alright People,

Bit boring! But after cycling 500miles with running shoes and toe clips, I'm gonna buy my first pair of road shoes (SPDs)

I'm a student, and have very little resources- wanting to spend around £50 to £80.... or hopefully less.

I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with Nike Ventoux II (these are around £45) or should I go for something a wee bit more expensive, like the Bontrager Race Road 09 shoe, for around £80?

Or do you suggest anything completely different??? Or can anyone point me in the right direction for threads/websites etc?

Or has anyone got any size 43 road shoes they're wanting to sell?

Thanks!

recently bought some Specialized road elite - which are great and got them for £70. Tried numerous others (shimano, northwave, mavic, etc.) and these were all very narrow. The specialised shoes fit great though. Hope that helps

Consider also mountain bike clipless pedals/shoes. They have the advantage that you can usually walk more or less normally in MTB shoes.

EDIT: sorry, missed that you already had road pedals.

+1 on the specialized road elite. Got a new pair on Friday after having the old comps then a pair of sport. Love them, 100m straight out the box with no problems. Moved to Specialized from SIDI after the sizing seemed to change (not sure if it was theirs or mine - 43 used to fit but doesn't now!)

Look Keos do not = SPD. Completely different format.

Factor in a tenner for some cleats if you haven't got them already.

You might pick up some decent shoes on ebay, otherwise look out for sales. However, the cardinal rule of buying shoes is to know how they fit - try some on in an LBS beforehand if you plan to buy online. I now have multiple pairs of Specialized shoes which are very comfortable after trying the first pair.
