I'm a lefty, socialist type person politically, but I've been saying for years (and have horrified some nicey nicey people) that the UK needs to get a grip on immigration. It's an argument fraught with difficulties, but (to make an analogy with the holiday thread) if everyone goes there, it ends up as a place nobody wants to be in.

I'm the offspring of economic migrants (albeit only from Ireland, 1950s) and I'm culturally confused.

My family are immigrants in both sides.

My father's side came over from Germany in the 5th centuary and my mothers came over from France around 1066
Sod off back to your own countries then. Coming here talking our lands & jobs and giving us nothing but your stupid language in return.

I'll start. I'm one of those people who left the country to make room for somebody else to move in.
Thank you kindly: I took you place

My parents came to England in the 1960s and I've often been told to f'ck off back to where I came from.

Sheffield is about 70 miles up the road from me.
Leicester.... Sheffield.... Not much of a choice is it? They're both holes. ;)

if the UK asked you to come then you and your offspring are most welcome. we would have been fooked in the fifties if it wasn't for the windrush generation.

again in 1970s when idi went a bit doolally ( ok more doolally than he was) and chucked asians out of uganda , no problem.

My dad, a kiwi, once responded to a young customs officer's "And how long have you lived in the UK, sir?" with "Probably longer than you have, sonny." Bad move. Very bad move. The kind of 'joke' you only make once...
