His rear inner tube failed, leaving a half-inch gash in it.
A few peoples ears were left ringing.

When they were going to detonate the first atomic bomb, some scientists
thought there was a chance it could suck up all the oxygen in the atmosphere.

They haven't properly fired it up yet for a reason; to lull us into a false sense of security. It's like the price of gas; inform us in the summer when we don't use much of it, then hit us with the bills at the start of next year. I don't know what will arrive first, a massive bill or a super massive black hole.
