More a balconying question actually. I would quite like to grow a Rosemary bush in a largish pot on my balcony because it will both look good and be of culinary use. So I had a look at some at the gardening bit of the local DIY place and there are at least 3 varieties! Is there one which will look suitably bushy and be OK on the cooking front?

Go for a dwarf variety for a pot, standard ones can get a bit ragged. Rosemary all tastes about the same to me, when you buy it crush a leaf in your fingers and give it a sniff to see if you like it.

I would think that any of the varieties should be OK just keep it well watered and trim it regularly to keep it in shape otherwise it can get a bit straggly. Also pop some pot feet under the pot to help with drainage. If the pot is big enough then you could grow some smaller herbs underneath the Rosemary.
