So, a concrete 'plinth', about a foot across and two feet showing above the pavement. Possibly 50s, or even earlier.

Blue metal plaque.

White lettering as follows:

V 80

2.6

41X490

Any ideas what it's for? Can't see any other markings on it.

(Oh, on a suburban street in NW London).

Thanks
A

No idea but I'm intrigued - I lead a lonely life!

Any pics?

Blue plaque could be something to do with water mains.
V 80 valve and size 80mm
2.6 possibly distance 2.6 mtrs
41x490 no idea

41 X 590 are the dimensions of a Whirlpool 4 burner gas hob.
Thanks, Google - I hope this helps!

Access to a pipe of some sort. V probably stands for valve diameter, perhaps in mm? Also the dimensions below it could be the size of the access to it (in cm?)? I'm reckoning gas pipe, too.

Anyway, talking about I-Spy I played a frustrating game with my 3 year old nephew the other week. "I spy with my little eye something beginning with C" he said. (We were in the car at the time).

So I'm thinking and thinking "Oh, Cloud" I say.
"No".
Think some more.
"Cat" (we passed a cat).
"No!!".
"Oh, OK". I look at the dashboard. "Clock."
"No No No".

"Right. I give up. What is it then?"

"Sun". He smiles.

"But I thought...? Never mind. Your go again."

There was a similar episode here with one of the girls when she was little. Something beginning with N was the clue. After much incorrect guessing it turned out the answer was engine.

Obviously he's a bright bod. He meant Celestial Object, but made it simple for you by saying 'Sun'.:biggrin:
