God Almighty
Looking to get a part time job at somewhere such as halfords....or even better...and LBS.

What would be the best way to approach them to see if they have vacancies .... in person, drop them an email or give them a call?

Going off barracks, getting wasted, having a tear up with local lads and nailing local scrubbers getting expensive Monty? ;)

I would say all 3 are aceptable. Halfords is probably a case of apply online or drop in and speak to the manager to pick up an aplication form... an LBS probably has the owner/manager working in there most days so nip in and have an informal chat when they are quiet.

Good luck.

If you get a job at Halfords then you could educate their cycling department and persuade parents to go elsewhere looking for their kids bikes (somehow I don't think that would go down too well:evil:).

Ride to the shop in your best gear and on your most expensive bike.

Pop in and ask to see the boss and ask him if they have any positions/vacancies for a general shop's dogsbody/Saturday boy (like mickle!)/holiday cover etc.

He'll see that you're keen and have a genuine interest in bikes and cycling.

Good luck!

Have something prepared, you know why you want to work for them but why are you the best candidate for the vacancy and what are you going to bring to the position?

Work out what your strengths are and sell yourself based on these strengths. If you have any weaknesses don't reveal them as such but do discuss them in terms of things that you would like to learn in order to make you a more rounded and valuable employee.

Don't rock up on your bike in your lycra gimp suit - an employer wants to see who YOU are not who you think they want you to be or how you percieve an LBS employee to dress, and as you will be customer facing first impressions count. This harks back to an earlier thread about what's acceptable in terms of workplace attire and interview dress codes.
