I think it depends on which bike as well - winter hack? Summer pootle bike? Tourer?. I'm not sure I'd go for any of those options especially - comfort maybe, but that's not so important on my winter hack which only ever does a few miles at a time. And comfort over a shot hop can be different from comfort all day....

There's reliability, ease of use and maintenance (hub gears vs derailleurs etc)...

It has to work, and do what I want it to.

In several decades of cycling I have had one broken frame after it got hit by a camper van. And I got it repaired.

All real steel bikes.

I don't rate weight. Having done the Raid Pyrenean on a 12.7kg tourer with 20kg of gear, why would I care about a few grams?

Comfort/ergonomics are what count.
