seems he was given a heck of a lot of chances, if he's been stealing bikes for 5 years he could easily be responsible for several hundred thefts. Yet I feel sorry for the guy, he has a gambling addiction, he's now in prison, so chance of re-offending 99.999999%. I doubt he'll get the treatment required to help him, so he'll just escalate and cause more misery to others as well as himself.

Judge John Price told Sener: "You were caught on camera so many times it is surprising it took so long to arrest you.

Which possibly shows how far down the Polices things-to-do list bike theft is...

"The courts have really done everything but send you to prison to try and stop you doing this and it hasn't worked."

What 'everything' have the courts being doing to this man considering it took so long to arrest him? Seems a bit conflicting to me.

Oh well, at least he's off the streets for a while...

Instead of our taxes being paid to look after him send him back to where he came from
and by claiming he was a addict to gambling BS what casino was he a member not a mention when you consider those in the Casino can spot em faster than you realise and he would have been barred and his picture sent to all other establishments

he was probably the peanut who stole my 2 week old bike from the Station a couple of years back. It was caught on cctv... but police didn't even follow it up.

I hope you never have to deal with an addiction.

You can be addicted to whatever, as soon as that addiction involves thieving from others and ruining their lives you don't deserve compassion.
+1 to tradesecrets

Okay, compromise.

Reduce the sentence to a mere 3 months, then spend the money that would be spent on the rest of his incarceration, on rehabilitation.

The only proviso is, the 3 months are to be spent U-locked by the neck to a cycle parking bay 24/7 with "Bike Thief" printed on his forehead
