I have the obvious mountings on the rear stays plus the seat tube and on the top side of the down tube for mounting bottles etc.

However, I've just spotted a couple more on the underside of the down tube - what are these for?

A third bottle. Common on touring/audax bikes and more often used for fuel bottle or a tool pack or even battery pack for the lights.

yes - a third bottle cage, perfect position for the bottle to collect the crud off the road.

^^^^ no, it will be bottle cage mount - pretty sure you will find they are M5 threaded holes spaced exactly the right distance for a bottle cage.

Gary Fisher bikes have them on the underside.

Both are right, I'd say, in that crud guards were made to go onto those mounts.

Yes they are for an extra bottle cage but as I don't fancy drinking from a bottle covered in road crud I have mounted my Topeak Roadmorph pump there instead.
