It certainly was. We were having a barbeque last summer and it flew virtually over our house. Everyone stopped and looked up, followed by the various kids, who'd never seen anything like it, launching into a furious series of "what was that?" questions.

I remember attending air-displays in the late 70's/early 80's & hearing it

I saw it take-off from Finningley, during its June tour, & the noise was incredible, & that was before it was even seen (partially hidden by trees, as it rolled onto the runway
