I think that's generally the rule. Same with the Olympics.
So you could theoretically order some of the Team GB kit. It was there for order but the prices were eye watering and the lead time was in months. I doubt anyone ever actually bothers - but yes you can order the gear.

I wasn't too clear - but the point I was making was 'is it a valid (within the rules) record if the bike isn't generally available (it's a prototype)?

I'm sure Ineos will know his power output and the drag of his hour record kit and have done the sums to know he can do it.

We didn't even send Bigham to the Worlds did we ? It's a different kettle of fish.

That's a bit crazy - so I might order a bike after seeing the record ride, then if they fail to find the moulds, Ganna is stripped of the record

Not really. I think they're keener on sock height than stuff like that.
