How do i know what disc brake pads i got without taking the old ones out to see

I think they are shimano m585 hydraulics - the rear one is very spongy and the lever needs to be pulled virtually all the way in before the pads make contact - so im assuming they are worn disc pads

Sintered I found make an awful racket. I now go with the Semi Metallics.
just ordered semi metallic and will cancel the sintered - cheers ian

Holy Thread Resurrection. @ianrauk When you change your pads do you take the actual brake off the bike or do them in situ? Reason I ask is the last time I tried to change them I couldn't do it (left the brakes in situ) and ended up getting the LBS to do it for me, but am thinking of trying to do it myself again. I got the old pads out okay, just couldn't get the new ones in.
