I'd been resisting the temptation to point that out, but since you already have, I might as well also mention that it is Étape not Etap!

A thing I've been wondering about (I don't get out enough!)... shouldn't Etape du Dales really be Etape (Étape) des Dales? I suppose it depends on whether one considers The Dales a single area or many individual Dales?

Hmm, the The official Yorkshire Dales Website uses Les Dales on its French welcome page so it would be des then.

Yes it should. The Etape du tour is right because 'tour' is not plural. But this 'Etape' is a stage of the dales, not the dale. The dales is a plural word for an area comprising of several different dales - Coverdale, Wensleydale, Swaledale etc innit. French grammar lessons from Mm Blonde and Mr ColinJ are available in cafestop.....
